The reason I decide to become a marketing coach is so I could enlighten the fledgling Personal Trainers and Massage Therapists to all of the pitfalls and downsides to avoid with conventional advertising. With my guidance I will demonstrate that you will not only find many successful free and low cost unconventional ways to start promoting yourself. You will also find out with these methods you’ll have the freedom and flexibility to advertise in any way that you choose.

However there is a trade off, what it doesn’t cost in money, it will cost you in time and effort. Remember nothing ventured is nothing gained!  The effort will be well worth it! Because with these blueprints you’ll be doing it a fraction of time that it took me to accumulate the wealth of knowledge. But to get you started I’ll just to give you some background.

After receiving various certifications in Personal Training and Massage Therapy I thought was ready to take on the world. I was like. " Here I am world come and find me"! Unfortunately it was not to be. With all of my teachings there was one thing that wasn’t taught throughout all of the courses and training and that was how to market yourself. While the school I eventually learned from with many a life lessons. It was called The School of Hard Knocks.

My initial eye opening experience was with an well circulated Newspaper based in New York when I was looking to place an ad. Through them I quickly found out that some in the advertisement business are sharks looking to prey on the naive. They do not have your best interest at hand they are just looking to make a profit pure and simple. Not that there’s anything wrong with making a profit if it’s done in a honest and reputable way. In any account through a lot of persuasion by them I was convinced that taking out only one ad would not guarantee that I would get any notice and that the only truly effective ads are ads were the ones that are done in repetition. They tell you in order to maximize your exposure you are going to have to spend thousands of dollars on repeat advertising with them. Which is difficult to do when you’re on a shoestring budget. They call it branding and for example they’ll site big names like Coke and Pepsi whose ads are highly affective. Even though the price that I was quoted was not in my budget if I were going to pay in one lump sum, I was assured that they would make it easy on me by making a payment plan.

"If you had money to advertise like the major companies you wouldn’t need to advertise because you’d already be financially set."

So I painstakingly began putting my ad together trying to make it sound as effective I could within the constraints of a 1/8 page ad. Between the word counting and the proofing the ad was finally ready to go. Anxiously awaiting the following week’s publication I had hoped for at least one phone call. When it eventually was published, I waited and waited and nothing. Several days later I got a copy of the paper in the mail. Turning to the ad page I learned why I hadn’t gotten any calls... they got my phone number wrong!

Regardless of my protest stating that I was absolutely positive that I gave them the right phone number and in spite of the fact that the person in charge of advertising called me a number of times to verify it doing the proofing process my attempts to rectify the situation. They simply weren’t hearing it. "It’s your fault if you want it done again you have to pay for it"! Needless to say despite the threatening and harassing phone calls I refuse to pay the bill. It was not too long afterwards I found out through their competitor that this was standard operating procedure for them. Lesson learned! Subsequently I took out an ad with their competitor but unfortunately it yielded no better results.

Unfortunately many of you probably may have shared in the same disappointment and frustration that I have over the years. But as they say there are two forms of inspiration, that is motivation and desperation. I've had my share of both.

But let me be abundantly clear even though these techniques are tried and true, what I'm am prepared to share with you is no guarantee to be successful. It is all according to how much work and effort with my help you are willing to invest in your practice. By building my practice with these methods I've been able to become financially secure while being self employed.
